Pcos Symptoms and Treatment

Chinese medicine and Acupuncture have shown great advancement in PCOS treatment. Polycystic ovary syndrome is a growing health concern in females. Its early symptoms are infertility, hirsutism, menstrual irregularities, and polycystic ovaries. While the condition has no known cure, Chinese medicine and acupuncture have provided relief to patients from the symptoms of PCOS. Traditional Chinese medicine works to cure the pain by reducing and balancing hormones in the body. Acupuncture also plays an integral role in reducing PCOS symptoms by using needles on the body to initiate healing, reduce inflammation, and relieve pain from PMS symptoms.

There are small cysts around the outside edges of enlarged ovaries due to this hormonal disorder. It is unknown what causes polycystic ovary syndrome, but genetics and environment may play a role. PCOS is a common endocrine disorder affecting approximately 20% of women of reproductive age. The disease cannot be diagnosed by a single test. Although elevated LH levels, an increase in LH-FSH ratios, and high fasting insulin levels often characterize polycystic ovary syndrome, these factors are not diagnostic. Adipose tissue, the hypothalamic-pituitary compartment, the ovaries, and the adrenal glands can all be abnormally affected in PCOS.

The condition is often accompanied by gynecological problems such as infertility, abnormal uterine bleeding, and endometrial pathology, as well as changes in glucose and lipid metabolism, obesity, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease. PCOS is typically associated with higher serum AMH levels, which are likely to form part of future diagnostic criteria. Approximately 50-70% of PCOS patients secrete excessive amounts of dehydroepiandrosterone from their adrenocortical glands. A classic ovarian cyst is not present in the syndrome, despite its name. Antral follicles arranged peripherally in the ovarian cortex form the cysts associated with polycystic ovary syndrome. There is an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, and lipid abnormalities in women with polycystic ovary syndrome. To improve fertility outcomes and prevent long-term sequelae associated with polycystic ovary syndrome, interventions should address the compounding influence of polycystic ovary syndrome and obesity.

Women with PCOS are treated with lifestyle modifications and ovulation induction medications. For achieving pregnancy, metformin alone is not effective. Ovulation and pregnancy can be dramatically affected by diet, weight loss, and exercise. In women with polycystic ovary syndrome, metformin can complement fertility treatments. According to studies, acupuncture can restore the hypothalamus-pituitary–ovary axis disorder by regulating uterine estrogen, pituitary follicle-stimulating hormone, and luteinizing hormone levels. An acupuncture treatment can enhance nerve and endocrine control, improve sleep, and increase mental tolerance to anxiety and depression. To restore the normal physiology of hormone regulation and prevent the development of multiple comorbidities, acupuncture can be considered a top choice of treatment.
